Tony Ferrino

Tony Ferrino is a fictional character created by Steve Coogan. He is a popular Portuguese lounge singer who went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest in 1982 (the actual winner in real life was Nicole), he made a TV Special called "The Tony Ferrino Phenomenon" which was televised by BBC television on New Year's Day 1997. He also appeared in Coogan's live show The Man Who Thinks He Is It in 1997/1998.
Many jokes are made around his sleazy behaviour, particularly concerning women, and the fact that people who displease him (mostly his ex-wives) have a habit of dying or disappearing in an extremely suspicious and mysterious fashion.
In reality he only had moderate success compared to Coogan's previous creation Alan Partridge, however, fictionally he was a world famous singer with a string of top 40 singles and albums.

- He had a (real) minor hit in the UK with the Tom Jones' song "Help Yourself" Christmas 1996.
- Portugal never won the Eurovision Song Contest.
- Ferrino released an album which reached number 46 in the UK charts for one week before flopping without a trace.
