Toms River Regional Schools

Toms River Regional Schools is a regional public school district primarily located in the quickly growing coastal community of Toms River, located in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States, along the state's Jersey Shore.

The area, with approximately 110,000 residents, most of whom in live in Toms River Township, has roughly 19,000 students enrolled in the regional school system's 18 schools, making it the largest suburban school district in the state, and the fourth largest school district in New Jersey (after Newark, Jersey City and Paterson).

The district incorporates the boroughs of Beachwood (2,202 students from a 2000 Census population of 10,375), Pine Beach (325 students; 1,950) and South Toms River (830 students; 3,634), along with Toms River Township (14,919 students; 89,706).

The district has three high schools (East, North, South), as well as three middle schools (East, North, South). Intermediate East and West, which was recently renamed Intermediate North, (Grades 6-8) are currently the two most populous middle schools in New Jersey at 1,660 and 1,363 students respectively. Intermediate South opened in 2005 with approximately 1,300 students. Coinciding with the opening of the new middle school, 6th grade classes were shifted from the elementary schools to middle schools in order to alleviate overcrowding in the districts elementary schools. Toms River Regional also has twelve elementary schools.

The district also operates one elementary school in Seaside Heights, New Jersey.

To raise money for the schools, the district created Toms River Fest, a major festival held during the summer.

The Toms River Regional School District will soon be the home to the largest solar panel installation in the world.

The Toms River Regional School District ranked first in Ocean County and second in the state for the lowest per pupil cost for the 2006-2007 fiscal year, according to the New Jersey Department of Educations Comparative Spending Guide.

For the 2005-06 school year, the district was recognized with the "Best Practices Award" by the New Jersey Department of Education for its "Career Day" Career Education program at East Dover Elementary School.^[1]

For the 1993-94 school year, the district was recognized by the New Jersey Department of Education as a Star School for the Toms River Alternate School-High School South.^[2]
