[edit] Early life

Tommy Walsh was born in Tullaroan, County Kilkenny in 1983. He was educated locally and showed great skill at the game of hurling in his youth. He later attended St. Kieran's College in Kilkenny, a virtual hurling academy. Here his hurling skills were developed further and he won an All-Ireland Colleges' medal. Walsh later studied at University College Cork and he currently works as an official with the Bank of Ireland.

[edit] Playing career

[edit] Club

Walsh plays his club hurling with Tulalroan, one of the most famous clubs in the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship. He has enjoyed much success at underage level with the club, however, he has yet to win a senior county title.

[edit] Inter-county

By the late 1990s Walsh came to the attention of the Kilkenny inter-county selectors and he quickly joined the minor panel. With the minors he won a Leinster medal, however, an All-Ireland medal at this level eluded him. Walsh quickly moved onto the under-21 team where he won two further Leinster medals and an All-Ireland in 2003.

Walsh joined the Kilkenny senior panel in 2002 and won his first National Hurling League medal in 2003. Later that summer he made his senior debut in the Leinster Championship. He quickly captured his first Leinster medal following a win over Wexford before later defeating Cork to win his All-Ireland medal at senior level. In 2004 Kilkenny were hoping to win their third All-Ireland title in-a-row, however, they lost both their Leinster and All-Ireland crowns to Wexford and Cork respectively. Kilkenny were back in 2005 with Walsh winning his second National League and Leinster titles. His side, however, were later defeated by Galway in a thrilling All-Ireland semi-final. In 2006 Walsh won his third National League medal before claiming his third provincial title. He later won his second All-Ireland medal following a great victory over Cork, who were attempting to wi a third consecutive All-Ireland title. Walsh finished off the year by winning a fourth consecutive All-Star award.

Walsh also won a Railway Cup medal with Leinster.
