Welcome | Tommy's Holiday Camp | We're Not Gonna Take It |
"Tommy's Holiday Camp" is a track on The Who album Tommy (1969). Although credited to Keith Moon, it was in fact composed and performed by Pete Townshend. Moon came up with the idea of the Holiday Camp and said he would write it. Townshend wrote it instead, but he said it was exactly how Keith would have. Keith was given credit for writing it because he had the idea.It is something of a novelty track, featuring none of the usual Who instrumentation, but simply Hammond organ and banjo (both played by Townshend) and a double-tracked vocal. The song is sung by Uncle Ernie as he welcomes 'converts' to Tommy's spiritual retreat. In the last few seconds of the song, Uncle Ernie says, in a much deeper, more sinister voice, "Welcome", possibly hinting that he has not fully reformed from the mentality demonstrated in Fiddle About.
