It grew from the direct-to-video movies The Magic Ring, Blast Off to Mars, The Fast and the Furry, and Shiver Me Whiskers.
The series had its international première on Boomerang in the UK on February 27, 2006, and has premièred in the US on Kids' WB! on The CW on September 23, 2006.
Recently at TV.com, it has been announced that the show will be getting a second season.

[edit] Trivia
- Droopy makes a cameo appearance as a doctor in Cat Nebula, and in Tomcat Jetpack, barbecuing a hotdog, but then Tom eats it.
- The first part of the opening sequence homages the short Designs on Jerry.
- Butch, a mangy black alley cat who was Tom's rival in several classic shorts, appears in Polar Peril, City Dump Chumps, and Beach Bully Bingo. His voice sounds similar to Bobcat Goldthwait's.
- Jerry's Uncle Pecos, who appeared in the original Tom and Jerry shorts, is in Cry Uncle.
- So far, there are 15 shorts where Jerry triumphs, 11 where they both win, and 7 where they both lose. No shorts have been made where Tom wins.
- In Dog-Gone Hill Hog, Spike makes a reference to King of the Hill.
- Tuffy (Nibbles) makes an appearance in Cat Nebula as Jerry's space cadet sidekick.
