Tom Snout

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tom Snout, a tinker, plays the Wall in Pyramus and Thisbe, a play within William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. His role is very limited since Snout is only a background character. In the play-within-a-play, he is the wall which separates Pyramus' and Thisbe's gardens. In the play-within-a-play, the two lovers whisper to each other through Tom's fingers (representing a chink in the wall). Tom has eight lines under the name of Tom Snout, and twelve lines as The Wall.
