I removed this paragraph because it was too unencyclopedic:

"Today, Tommy Hilfiger succeeds in the competitive world of fashion by listening to and designing what his customers want. His down-to-earth personality and accessibility have generated an avid following of fans who like Tommy as much as they love his clothing. Wall Street loves him too. He's the driving force which helped his company grow from a $25 million to a $400 million fashion empire."

[edit] Proven? false allegations

Can anyone find a serious third party source that provides proof that Tommy Hilfiger didn't in fact make those comments? Sfacets 03:23, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

The weight to provide proof should be on the acusation, not on the defence. What we need is proof that he did say it, not that he didn't. Else any rumour would become fact as long as there was no proof against it. But if you insist, here is a serious third party source that provides proof that Tommy Hilfiger didn't in fact make those comments. By the way: I dislike Tommy Hilfiger and his brand.--Daniel Medina 23:56, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
Is this good enough proof for you? How about this? No? Try this! You gotta be KIDDING me.
Oh, and yeah - Tommmy sucks. People still wear his crap? PennyGWoods 07:40, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Urban legends? Trend micro? Some random website that looks like a spammers cersion of paradise? Nope. Not good enough proof.

If both parties negate that it ever happened it is virtually impossible to find proof that he did in fact say those things. But I know. I just wanted to audit what ppls opinion on him were.

A statement from Oprah's production team explicitly stating that Hilfiger has never even been a guest on the show isn't enough? Please.--RicardoC 00:06, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Hey, whaddaya know? A statement from Oprah herself:
"So I want to just set the record straight once and for all. The rumor claims that clothing designer Tommy Hilfiger came on this show and made racist remarks, and that I then kicked him out. I just want to say that is not true because it just never happened. Tommy Hilfiger has never appeared on this show. READ MY LIPS, TOMMY HILFIGER HAS NEVER APPEARED ON THIS SHOW. And all of [the] people who claim that they saw it, they heard it — it never happened. I've never even met Tommy Hilfiger."
So there you have it. If that doesn't convince you, then shine on, you crazy diamond.--RicardoC 00:10, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Items removed from article

I've removed the link to flcrooks.com as it bears no connection with the article and appears to be merely an advertising link. --Vincentanton 01:47, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Poorly Organised

This article is poorly organised and there are parts of the introduction that would clearly do better in a new section titled "History" or something like that. I would do this myself but I do not have the time right now so if someone else wants to get to it then go ahead. --PaladinWriter 12:38, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tommy Hilfiger the human

Where is he? IMHO, the picture isn't exactly repersentative of the guy. Jackpot Den 19:53, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Irish?

Hilfiger hardly is an Irish name... maybe Catholic, maybe some Irish ancestry, but as far as I know Hilfiger is a Bavarian name (and Bavaria is - like Ireland - also predominantly Catholic). Wathiik

[1] My guess is that he is half Irish and Half Bavarian or wherever the name Hilfiger comes from (not Ireland anyway). But then again.... Compare these: [2][3] Superdude99 17:37, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kicking and screaming?

In the report of the encounter with Axl Rose, these same words are used in the Rose article, but the referenced Fox News article makes no mention that Hilfiger was kicking, screaming, or dragged away by his own security guards. Unless these actions can be verified, it appears some editor has bias against Hilfiger. MDonfield 02:48, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tommy Hilfiger doesn't manufactor clothes

I was very surprised to find read that Tommy Hilfiger doesn't actually manufactor clothes, they merely use their label to market clothes manufactored by other companies. The wikipedia article says nothing about this and I feel that it is certainly relevant. I came across this information in my psychology textbook (Conducting Research in Psychology: Measuring the Weight of Smoke. By Pelham and Blanton, 2007. Pg 239). I then found this website going into further detail <http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node=Tommy%20Hilfiger>.

This information might be worthy of inclusion, but the link you found is from a dubious source. Anyone can make any claims they want in blogs and message boards, without any contraints such as research or fact-checking. Verifiable sources need to be found and cited.---Jackel 15:33, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Actually, most fashion brands don't manufacture their products directly, other than the special pieces seen on the runway. The stuff one buys in stores is almost always farmed out to other manufacturers. This is a non-issue and no big deal. wikipediatrix 16:33, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Please note the 6th post from the top in the link I provided. It includes citations for his or her sources. I feel that a list of Tommy Hilfiger's different manufacturers for their product lines is certainly worthy of being in this encyclopedia article.

[edit] Vandalism.

Someone has vandalized this page. To name an example they replaced his name with "Tammy Hilsfinger", as well as other things. I think that something should be done about this. I don't think that someone's opinion should be brought onto the page itself. If anyone can do anything about this, please do.
