[edit] Tolleson University High
Tolleson has also been recognized as a high school who holds a program to give students college level classes. These must be tested in with a variety of ways. It is one of the few schools in the state to offer such classes. Recently, ASU has been working closely with the staff to provide maximum support for its gifted students. The current teachers for the 2006-2007 school year are Terry Caruso [Honors English], Bonnie Pendergast [Honors Algebra II and Advenced Integrated Alegrba I], Joan Stallman [Speech and Creative Writing], Christina Smyth [Learners Support Lab], Felipe Mandurraga [Honors Biology], and Ken Thomas [Advanced Placement Human Geography]. Students participating in this program may also take ordinary electives, such as Varsity Band, Spanish, Native Spanish, French, Wellness, Guitar, Keyboarding, and such.
[edit] Varsity Band
The school's Varsity Band recently achieved a rating of "Excellent" at the Arizona State Marching Band Festival Division III. This is a major accomplishment, since a level so high had not been achieved in many previous years. Director is Frank Gast.
