The song pays homage to the athletes and those who worked tirelessly to participate in the Games. The track was first performed as the concluding song at the 2006 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, and was subsequently released as a commercial single. The song has appeared on the 2006 version of American Idol (season 5) as a group song for the top 5 finalists (Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, Elliott Yamin, Chris Daughtry, and Paris Bennett). The video for the single is a montage of Delta's performance at the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony as well as some sporting highlights of the Games.

"Together We Are One" debuted at number two on the ARIA Charts. The single spent three weeks in the top five but did not reach the number one position. In the third week of release, the single received Gold status. The single did well on the digital charts, jumping twenty one places (citation needed).
