Todd Wright

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Todd Wright is an American sports radio personality. He is currently the host of Todd Wright Tonight on Sporting News Radio, which debuted on Monday, June 12, 2006 and airs Monday to Friday from 10 p.m.-2 a.m. (Eastern).

He was previously the host of ESPN Radio's AllNight with Todd Wright, and was a part of ESPN Radio from 1996 to 2005.

Wright can be seen on Sun Sports, a cable network in Florida and heard on the PGA Tour Network's radio golf broadcasts. He also frequently writes columns for Pro Football Weekly and blogs for the Tampa Bay Lightning on their official website. Wright has also hosted the Steve Duemig show when Duemig is on vacation on 620 WDAE in Tampa.

During Wright's tenure with ESPN Radio, he bucked a number of conventions held by other hosts, including giving the call-in number as "1-888-RAW-ESPN" where all other hosts gave out "1-888-SAY-ESPN" (RAW and SAY both key out as 729, so it is actually the exact same number). He was also adamant that his picture not be put on any ESPN websites, telling listeners that radio was meant to be a theater of the mind and that it really didn't matter what he looked like. He has since allowed his picture to be posted online.

These and other violations of ESPN corporate policy resulted in his termination from the company in September 2005, with ESPN choosing not to renew its contract with Wright, much to the dismay of his loyal listeners. [1].

Wright claims to be the first to refer to the NBA as "the Association," among other sports' catch phrases.
