Today with Des and Mel was a British television series hosted by Des O'Connor and Melanie Sykes. The show featured celebrity guests, phone-in competitions and chat between the hosts. It was produced by ITV Productions, at their London Studios. The show was previously produced at Teddington Studios.
Today with Des and Mel was based on the format of the popular American television show, Live with Regis and Kelly.
ITV announced on May 12, 2006 that the show had been cancelled.
[edit] Guest Presenters
Paul O'Grady was a regular guest presenter, with ITV bosses being so impressed with his performance, that they gave him his own show - The Paul O'Grady Show (He then moved to Channel 4 in 2006). Dale Winton, Bradley Walsh & Richard Whiteley also covered for Des on occasion, with Jenny Powell often covering for Mel.
In late 2006 Bradley Walsh filmed a non-broadcast pilot for ITV, although that series wasn't commissioned there are still plans for a daytime show featuring him.
[edit] Return?
Soon after it was axed some insiders speculated about talks with other broadcasters such as Channel 4 and Five who were hoping to bring the show back in 2007 as it was extremely popular. However with Des O'Connor now presenting another daytime show, Countdown, this seems unlikely at present, although it might be noted that Countdown is filmed in blocks, so if it can be scheduled accordingly, it is still a possibility.
