Toce
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Toce is a river in Piedmont, Italy. It is 76 kilometers long and its source is situated on the Italian southern side of the Gries Pass near the Swiss border and flows into Lake Maggiore near Fondotoce.
South of La Frua the water of the river plummets 143 meters over the Toce Falls into Formazza Valley, through which it flows before transversing Valle Antigorio after another series of cascades. Near Crevola d'Ossola the river Diveria discharges into the Toce. At this point the valley gets wider and is known as Ossola Valley. The Toce flows through the main city of the valley, Domodossola, and then Villadossola and Ornavasso. After a total of 76 kilometers the Toce then flows into Lake Maggiore.
Its major tributaries are the Diveria, Melezza (joining it near Domodossola), Anza (near Piedimulera), and Strona (near Gravellona Toce).
