Toby Wing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Toby Wing (July 14, 1915, Amelia Court House, Virginia - March 22, 2001, Mathews, Virginia) was an American actress and Chorus girl. Wing began working onscreen at age 9, mostly on her father's films (her father was an assistant director). In 1931, she became one of the first Goldwyn Girls. Although most of her films were bit parts, she became widely recognized as a sex symbol even rivaling such stars as Claudette Colbert and Marlene Dietrich. She was also known for being romantically linked to former child star Jackie Coogan, actor Maurice Chevalier and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jr.

By 1938 her career had fizzled and Wing went into retirement after marrying pilot Dick Merrill. She then became successful in real estate in California and Florida. Wing and Merrill later settled back in Virginia where they lived together until Dick's death in 1982.
