Toboggan Handicap
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Toboggan Handicap is a Thoroughbred race run at Aqueduct Race Track each year for three-year-old horses and up. A Grade III event, it's set at a distance of 6 furlongs on the dirt and offers a purse of $100,000 added. The Toboggan will be in its 115th running in 2008. Before 1896, it was called the Toboggan Slide because it took place on a downhill course at Morris Park in the Bronx. The Toboggan Slide was not run in 1891 or 1895. The Toboggan Handicap was not run in 1911 and 1912. It was set at six furlongs from 1890 to 1993. Prior to 1890 it was three quarters of a mile. The race was run at Belmont Park from 1867 to 1961.
