[edit] Plot

A presumptuous, intrusive salesman does and says everything conceivable to sell our boys his jars of salve. Stimpy, however, is sucked into the scam and attempts to complete a sale with the crazy salesman. But every time he attempts to sell Stimpy salve, Ren interferes, and slaps the can of salve away. The first time the salesman appears, Ren actually goes as far as to say, "How dare you take advantage of MY blithering idiot!"

The second time around, Stimpy sneaks into Ren's room and begins messing with his vanity table. The salve salesman comes around after Stimpy tries (and eventually fails) to style his hair. The salesman slaps a glob on Stimpy's head that resembles that of Elvis Presley, and before Stimpy can hand over the money, Ren interferes and kicks the salesman out of the house. He then forces Stimpy to wash the dishes, and Stimpy discovers that the soap has run out. The salesman appears once again, and tells Stimpy instead of washing away the dirt the old fashioned way, he can hide it the all-new Salve way. Ren appears with a plunger and forces the salesman into the sink before washing him down with water. The salesman's last gargle is, "Salve would do wonders on these rusty pipes!!!"

The next interruption comes when the duo are at the breakfast table. Stimpy is making a jelly sandwich and Ren is reading a newspaper. As Stimpy grabs his butter knife to put jelly on the toast, the salesman's face appears in the toast. He tells Stimpy to eat a "Salve-wich", and that it's "indigestible". Ren realizes the salesman is back, and stands up, roaring to Stimpy, "That's it! What'd I tell you about buying ointment from food?" Ren then proceeds to accidentally step in a cube of butter, and after realizing this, pauses before he loses his temper with the salesman. He growls, "I'll teach you to swindle my eediot sidekick!", and proceeds to scrape the burnt parts of the toast into the trash can. Then, he rushes outside and hurls the toast into the jaws of a junkyard dog, who mauls the toast and runs away. Ren then laughs psychotically.

The next scene shows Ren sitting on the toilet (presumably defecating), reading a "romance" book. As he reaches for the toilet paper, shock fills him that he is out. He then begins to cry, but the lid of the toilet rises up to reveal the Salve salesman who tells Ren he wouldn't be in this situation if he had some salve. Ren goes into an internal rage which ends up in him caving to the salesman's demands. But the salesman informs Ren that his "stupid, fat friend" just bought all the Salve. Stimpy is shown in the bath tub surrounded by over a hundred jars of Salve, and Ren breaks down crying before Stimpy holds out a can of Salve, with the lid off. Ren takes a glob of Salve on his finger, and the camera zero's in on Ren's face as an emotionally-racked Ren weakly grins.

[edit] Notes, Goofs, and Trivia

  • At the end of the episode, whenever Ren is given the salve on his finger, whenever Ren smiles and the little black shape is about to shrink, you can still see Ren's hand on the left side of the circle. This is probably a mistake, since that hand is supposed to be wiping (or rubbing, or something.)
  • Only time the "Backround Color Design" credit comes after the direction credit.

[edit] Plot

Ren and Stimpy attempt to gain access to Mr Pipe's backyard, to get a plate of "hog jowls", but the backyard is being guarded by a baboon. At first, the two try sending Stimpy's skin into the yard, but Mr. Pipe discovers it and mistakes it for one of the jowls, and feeds it to the baboon. A disturbing image of Stimpy without his skin is shown, as he watches his skin be mutilated by the baboon. Their second plan to infiltrate the yard is by dressing up as Ms. Pipe, and stepping in. They succeed in fooling the baboon--but NOT Mr. Pipe. He tells her it's time for her to get mauled by the baboon, and she hesitantly takes a step into the baboon's jaws.

The last time they try and enter, Ren prepares a sexy baboon puppet to distract the baboon while Stimpy sneaks in to retrieve the jowls. Unfortunately, the distraction works a little too well, and Ren ends up having his hand married to the baboon by Stimpy. Ren is then dragged across the yard as the baboon holds his inanimate bride proudly in a "just married" tone. Ren finally gets his hog jowls after Stimpy shows up with them at the end of the episode. Ren's hand is seen caught in the door of the Baboon's house and giggling is heard (even though Ren is supposed to do the voice of the puppet).

[edit] Notes, Goofs, and Trivia

  • Originally the script called for the dessert to be a hair pie, but the network changed it.
  • "A Yard Too Far" is loosely based on the Yogi Bear short "Pie Pirates".
  • On Nicktoons Network reruns, they aired this episode on two shows; before "Circus Midgets" (No Pants Today never aired), and after the real filler (To Salve or Salve Not). Probably because Nickelodeon won't allow Nicktoons Network to show, "No Pants Today".
