"To Be with You" is a song by the American hard rock group Mr. Big. It appears on the album Lean into It (1991) and was written by Eric Martin (lead singer) when a teenager, and later polished together with songwriter David Grahame. It is a love ballad and the most well-known Mr. Big song. Bassist Billy Sheehan once referred to it as their passport to travel. Much played on U.S. radio, and the video being the top of MTV, the song pushed the band to debut #1 in the U.S., lead for three weeks, and be listed other charts in 13 more countries. The song opened the door to the Atlantic Records bet in acoustic songs for Mr. Big's career.
[edit] Trivia
- Martin admitted he wrote the song, at the time, "to woo his sister's friends".
- The reason the track was released as the last track on Lean into It (1991) is explained by Paul Gilbert: "We were a little scared of it. We were supposed to be a thunderous hard rock band! But we all loved the song, so we snuck it on the album as the last track".
