[edit] haiku

I replied to your comment at Talk:Haiku. Also, please try to "sign" your Talk page posts by adding four tildes at the end (like this: ~~~~). BlankVerse 20:38, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I forget where it is, but there is a spot on the Wikipedia where you can ask for translations to be done. I have a feeling that some of the haiku article (for example, the section titled "Techniques of haiku") is probably already from the Japanese Wikipedia article because it uses terms that are not usually seen in English-language haiku books--even those that are on Japanese haiku. Quite a few of the articles on Japanese topics that are in the English Wikipedia are from translations from the Japanese Wikipedia, although most have since been edited, refactored, and added to. If you are interested in Japanese topics, there is also a Japanese WikiProject. BlankVerse 08:36, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Pointless Waste of Time

Hi, I note that your edit summary on this article reads: " this page was deleted after thourough discussion and procedure". Looking at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Pointless Waste of Time I see that the discussion was closed with the conclusion "already deleted."

Looking at the deletion log for all deletions after the VfD was started I see:

  1. 18:39, 15 Apr 2005 Jni deleted "Pointless waste of time?" (content was: 'Fart!!!!')
  2. 21:38, 15 Apr 2005 Jni deleted "Pointless waste of time?" (content was: '{{d}}I love JC!')
  3. 03:41, 16 Apr 2005 Neutrality deleted "Pointless Waste of Time" (Speedied twice, massive sockpuppetry on VfD)
  4. 03:56, 16 Apr 2005 Neutrality deleted "Pointless Waste of Time" (content was: 'Me wants it.{{del}}')

...and so on. So you see the article was deleted for spurious reasons (the version saying 'fart' could easily be reverted and then the page protected). Massive sock puppetry on a VfD discussion does not prevent protection of the page. Now I've closed VfDs where sock puppets were involved and, although it's not particularly easy, nor is it rendered impossible. The article was deleted outside the VfD process and no valid reason existed for deletion. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 13:49, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

As there was a content dispute I've protected the article. Now there can be no vandalism problem on that article, so don't worry. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 16:02, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Spore

Nice overhaul of the spore game article. I was going to do something similar but you beat me to it :) Anyway, we can use people like you over at WP:GCOTW. Drop by if you're interested. Jacoplane 01:11, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ann Arbor, Michigan - Images

Thanks for adding images to the article. Just out of curiosity - do you have any pictures of the Ann Arbor skyline and the AATA buses? I think those would be the final images needed for the article at the moment. Thanks. Pentawing 18:04, August 28, 2005 (UTC)

  • Just to let you know, I closed the peer review and placed the article for FAC. You can vote on the article and/or comment on it. Pentawing 23:17, September 6, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bhutan

I know, I did explain the reason why I reverted on the Talk:Bhutan page. Any ideas as to what should be done to compensate for the loss in lead text? What would you like to see? User:Nichalp/sg 11:58, September 10, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Chicago area meetup

I've finally decided on a place for the first Wikipedia meetup in Chicago: 2 p.m. at Saturday, October 15th at Cafe Iberico, a tapas bar in the River North neighborhood of Chicago at 739 N. La Salle Drive. They have parking available and are 0.3 mile from the Chicago stop of the CTA Red Line. See their website for parking information; for transit planning use the RTA trip planner with a destination address of "739 N. La Salle Dr." Cafe Iberico has vegetarian selections for those who are so inclined (sorry, they're not very vegan-friendly, I'm afraid). The food is excellent and the environment very suitable for an informal gathering. Do check their webpage for any additional questions, or ask me. They typically cost typically costs between $10 and $15 per person; I'm willing to cover for anyone for whom this is too much (as long as we don't get too many people).

Please let me know before Saturday, October 8th (by email or on my talk page) if you're planning on coming so I can make the appropriate reservations. See you there! Oh, and please share this invitation with anyone you know of in the Chicago area who I've missed. Kelly Martin 19:53, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] University of Michigan

Though you might be busy at the moment, I am wondering if you would be interested in looking over the article and comment on what else is needed. Thanks. Pentawing 03:16, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

  • I think the article is close to FA. However, if you get the chance can you please look at it and see if there is anything more that is needed? Thanks. Pentawing 21:45, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
  • I was wondering if you can get a chance to look over the article and comment on it further? Thanks. Pentawing 20:53, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
  • Just to let you know that the article is now on the FAC board. Feel free to look over it. Pentawing 00:12, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Preventing vandalism

Hi Tlogmer. First, I owe you an apology: looking back at your edit that I reverted it was clearly not vandalism and in good-faith. I should not have used rollback. I was sitting in the #wikipedia-en-vandalism IRC channel and >90% of the edits to Gay that go through there are vandalism. Editing that notice just looked like it. That's no excuse, and I should have been more careful.

Still, I'm inclined to think there should be no such notice at all at the top of articles since it just prods the vandals into thinking "hey, they wrote me a notice, now let's earn it!". WP:BEANS etc. The notice is also selective in the policies it singles out: choosing WP:NPOV over WP:V and WP:NOR, for example. It also makes me worry about biting newbies: "warning: your first edit might get you blocked if it's what we think is vandalism". Until a clueless newbie knows what vandalism is, it just makes another hurdle, albeit a small one, to them editing. There has been both an HTML comment and an actual tag on George W. Bush from time to time — probably our most heavily vandalised article at present. Both have been removed for the same sort of reasons I describe above. -Splashtalk 02:34, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Greg Egan story titles

Thanks for the story titles - still trying to think of a name for the law - maybe I'll start a wiki page about it, and see if it survives Adambrowne666 20:15, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Multiverse

See the talk page there --DV8 2XL 21:41, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

A generic prediction of inflation is that the thermalized region we inhabit is spatially infinite. Thus, it contains an infinite number of regions of the same size as our observable universe, which we shall denote as $\O$-regions. We argue that the number of possible histories which may take place inside of an $\O$-region, from the time of recombination up to the present time, is finite. Hence, there are an infinite number of $\O$-regions with identical histories up to the present, but which need not be identical in the future. Moreover, all histories which are not forbidden by conservation laws will occur in a finite fraction of all $\O$-regions. The ensemble of $\O$-regions is reminiscent of the ensemble of universes in the many-world picture of quantum mechanics. An important difference, however, is that other $\O$-regions are unquestionably real.

[edit] Wikitruth

Comments:

  1. PLEASE keep the paragraphs long and the article of a decent length - some day someone will want to WP:FAC this :)
  2. The last paragraph of common criticisms may get long, but it should be dealt with then if any more events happen - right now it simply doesn't explain anything. With it in is it good because it extends the article, which for the moment is a good thing.
  3. the portmonteau line, or something similar may still be a good idea because it can inform those unfamiliar with the situation why the image in question is a saterization

I care mostly about (1) though :). Just another star in the night T | @ | C 11:29, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Oh, and thanks for your improvements to the article :). It has been a crazy day there. Just another star in the night T | @ | C 11:38, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

I don't disagree that short paragraphs are better then long ones - but here our featured articles usually have just long paragraphs - see basically any of our featured articles for example. Anyway, hope I didn't scare you off - please feel free to continue editing :) - i've been at it all day and long since met my three revert limit, so I won't do anything like that. Also, the pormantau line probably could have come off as a joke I guess, I was trying to put a little flair in my writing and it probably came off the wrong way, LOL :).Just another star in the night T | @ | C 11:43, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I didn't know that -I must be really tired as well - thanks again :). Just another star in the night T | @ | C 11:51, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia head Jimmy Wales alleged that the site was a "hoax," and its creators "almost certainly people who have been banned by Wikipedia", but, like the Wikitruth authors, did not provide evidence.

Hi Tlogmer. For the moment I have removed this because it was somewhat ambiguous, or I did not understand the intended meaning. Does this mean that the Wikitruth authors did not provide evidence that they are banned, or something else? Can't sleep, clown will eat me 06:51, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

What's the name of the flower in the photograph? (10 points)

Hey, hey, hey! Thanks for the tweak at British Malaya!

Here's a pix of flower as a sign of gratitude.

You don't by any chance know the name of the flower, do you? I'm trying to make it as a featured pix but I need to find the name of the flower first=( __earth (Talk) 03:50, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Full meta links/todo

Hello there, lad. First, thank you very much for proposing a new system. Discussion and ideas like these are great things for WP, no matter what the result.

While I know that you have the best of intentions and I don't want you at all to take this offensively, please, please, please, don't create all of those as templates until we've finished talking over this idea here. Honestly, I never would have ever posted this, but after I read your comment that you were going to start making them I became worried that all of those would become bluelinks before I had a chance to make my points.

Thanks for listening. Again, I really hope you don't take this the wrong way, I just wanted to be sure that this wouldn't get started before discussion was over. Yours, Snoutwood (tóg) 00:10, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

No bother :). Snoutwood (tóg) 04:45, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey there! This is avalyn from Everything2. I couldn't help but notice your affinity for Userboxes, so I took it upon myself to create one for noders in Wikiland. If you'd like to use it, the template is at User:UBX/noder. See you around! Avalyn 14:10, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wiktionary logo

I've still got the original files; what do you mean by "flat colour" though? smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 06:24, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Because it was just a sketch, and I don't have any vector drawing software, I made it in Microsoft Publisher, the idea being that if the sketch was chosen, someone more talented than I could make a proper version on some proper vector software. I have the publisher file, but I doubt it can be turned into an SVG or similar. Still, I've uploaded a flat version.

[edit] easyreader

I have a question about your EasyReader. I have it working for the red and visited links, but not for blue links. I'm using Firefox 2.0, I know that it's only been tested on Firefox 1.5. I was wondering, have you since upgraded to a new version of Firefox and is it working for you? I'm wondering if it's just me and if there's anything I can do to fix it. Thank you.
