Tkph

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tonnes Kilometres Per Hour (TKPH) is the measurement of weight and distance travelled to calculate a figure concerning the health of a tyre (or set of tyres) on a truck.

There is a world wide shortage of truck tyres due to a lack of rubber (due to either or both the recent change in weather patterns and the change of industry in traditionally rubber producing countries). This not only makes tyres expensive but also hard to purchase. Recently it was heard of a company purchasing three new haul trucks but due to the lack of tyres they were supplied without any. In response to this mines are now much more careful about their tyres. Premature wear and failure of tyres is costly. Either new tyres have to be purchased at a premium price or trucks have to be parked and left useless until tyres can be sourced for them.

The aim of TKPH is to allow a mine site to monitor the use of its tyres so that they are not put under undue stress which leads to their premature failure
