TJ Hughes is a discount department store company founded in 1912 in Liverpool, England. The company has fifty department stores in the United Kingdom. TJ Hughes specializes in home and fashion, fragrance and cosmetics.[1]

With Headquarters in Liverpool, TJ Hughes first started trading in 1912. The company floated on the Stock Exchange in 1992, and was acquired by JJB Sports in April 2002. PPM Capital (Formally PPM Venture) and Bank of Scotland backed a management buy out in November 2003. Robin Dickie took the helm as Chief Executive in September 2004. Robin Dickie is ex Barclays (Managing Director), and WHSmith. He has restructured the senior management team bringing in new Directors. Cath Norgate, Trading Director (ex Woolworths and the Burton Group), Fergus Patterson, Stores Director (ex Barclays, WHSmith and the Burton Group), Muriel Stirling, Marketing Director (WHSmith, IMP, Whitbread and Gillette), Clare Quinn, HR Director (ex Royal Doulton and Matalan). They join with Richard Foggin, Property Director and Chris McKeown Logistics Director to make up the new Management Executive. Paul Gilbert has recently taken up the position of Financial Director. Paul was most recently at NCP, Gus, Littlewoods and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersens..

Today, TJ Hughes trades from 1.8 million square feet of retail space with 50 department stores nationwide. The stores are located across the UK from Eastbourne in the South to Dundee in the North.
