Tiwari

Tiwari is a Hindu Brahmin surname found mostly in Northern and Central parts of India. Its other forms are Tewari, Tewary, Tiwary and Tewarey. It is derived from Tripathi which literally means reading three times.
While Tiwari is common in states Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, Tripathi is used in (in addition to these states)in Orrisa, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Maharastra. Density of Tiwari (and Tripathi) is more among Kanyakubja and Saryuparin[[1]] Brahmins.

The popular belief is that those Brahman families who specialized in all 4 VEDAS came to be known as Chaturvedi ( chatur means 4 in sanskrit), those who specialized in 3 Vedas came to be known as Trivedi or Tripathi ( Tri- means 3 in sanskrit),

Dwivedi specialized in 2 vedas ( Dwi- meaning 2 ), 

those who only studied the Vedas but didn't specialized in them came to be known as Pathak i.e the reader,

those who specialized in Upanishads were known as Upadhyaya 

and Shukla were considered to be Genius among all, so Shukla is not a title but a designtion like Joshi.
