Hey, I dont think you should create a state name->template thingo, because that will be nearly pointless. It be flexible it would take up more space than a switch statement. Better is to educated people on the use of the switch statement. --TheJosh 02:34, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes there are a number of templates that are functions. Cant think of any off the top of my head, but Help:Templates may be able to help, or look for protected templates.

[edit] Problem with {{Infobox U.S. County}} template

Hi. Could you please fix the {{Infobox U.S. County}} template so that the articles about Georgia counties point to Georgia (U.S. state) instead of just "Georgia"? Thanks. Khatru2 07:40, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Here's one I hadn't considered. Can you tell me if this is possible?

In a template, I have a variable named {{{person}}}. I want the following to happen:

• if the user creates the page with {{{person}}} = Michael Jordan, just use {{{person}}}
• if the user creates the page with {{{person}}} = Michael Jordan, render the page as [[{{{person}}}]]

Yes! I do these all the time. I once created a template called AutoLink. Syntax: {{AutoLink|{{{person}}}}} Michael Jordan

You can also add a second param for a link name {{AutoLink|{{{person}}}|Sick}} Sick

[edit] re: U.S. County template

Thanks for noticing, but there are no problems with the CA county articles anymore because I modified them directly after I reverted the template back.

I realized what the bug is, although I cannot offhand remember what ID number it is under in the Bugzilla database. It had to do with the combination of the fact that there is a space in the parameter variable "map size", and the fact that the CA county map images stored on Commons are over 500px in width.

Somehow, if the article only had

map size = |

the map image would be displayed in its full 500px+ width instead of the default value of 250px. I either had to remove that line entirely from the article, or actually specify a map size value. I chose the latter.[1]

I see you added a reference to the Histpop template on the U.S. County infobox template page. I like that histpop template much more than the "Population by decade" template, but it isn't very easy to maintain because of its variable usage, and also because there isn't a "pre" section on the Template page to make copying/pasting easier. Do you want to look at tweaking the "Population by decade" template to have the look and feel of Histpop? /Timneu22 11:38, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

I think {{USCensusPop}} should meet those needs better. I'd suggest {{population by decade}} be deprecated and users encouraged to move to {{USCensusPop}}. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 15:54, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Reply to question on my talk page

If enabled, each edit shown in an editors watchlist shows the number of characters that changed with that edit. It's color coded red for negative and green for positive and gets bolded for larger changes. I believe this is also visible in the Recent change page. An example would be your edit to Connecticut which resulted in a negative character change of (-921). Without an edit summary, people will rush over to the page thinking somebody's deleted a huge chunk of the article. Ahh, cool, I was about to add a request also. In the "[[Special:Recentchanges|recent changes]" listing, your edits will show up as notable because they are reducing the size of the page by a lot. For instance, what I saw was:

(diff) (hist) . . Hawaii‎; 00:29 . . (-462) . . Timneu22 (Talk | contribs) (→Demographics)

but in the listing that number is in dark red, looking like a 'bad' thing. It tickles the vandal fighters with a "false positive" ;-) Shenme 01:08, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

I am trying to start a wiki that is focused on wrestling and video games. I figured that since it uses hte same design as Wikipedia (MediaWiki, or whatever it's called), that I could basically copy wrestling and video game templates like {{Template:Infobox Wrestling event}} and {{Template:Infobox CVG}}, but they aren't working. Here is what I ended up with [2]. Would you mind creating a few templates there?
