Tim Giddings has just finished being a student at Bristol University, where he studied the fine discipline of Classics. Contrary to widely-held belief, this does not mean reading Penguin Classics; Classics in fact refers to Greek and Latin literature.

He spent two enjoyable years at Wills Hall, the second leading the hall Christian Union.

He now works for Christ Church Clifton, an evangelical church in Bristol.

To the surprise of many, Tim wasn't actually privately educated, attending Reading School, a fine grammar in his home town. In fairness, it looks like a private school, has uniforms like a private school (lovely grey suits) and produces students like those of a private school, so the mistake is easily made.

Having a teacher and university lecturer as parents and an editor as sister have combined with Tim's language-focused course to render him infuriated by misspelling and generial deviancy from grammatical orthodoxy. As Horace once wisely said, "saepe stilum vertas" (Satyrarum libri 1.10.72), "Correct often".
