Timrå Municipality is a Municipality northern Sweden where the town Timrå is the seat with a population of 10.365 . It is located on the northern main line railway (Norra Stambanan), about 15 km north of Sundsvall (a town with a metropolitan area of some 100,000 inhabitants), and could arguably be considered a suburb of that town.
Timrå is located in a terrain of forest and hills. Traditionally the industry has been dominated by forestry. The timber was transported through the rivers and streams to their destination, most often to sawmills. In tribute to this, the city arms depicts trees and water.
In Sweden, Timrå is mainly known for its ice hockey club Timrå IK, playing in the highest division (Elitserien).
