From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Timothy John Boham also known as Marcus Allen (b 5/27/1981)[citation needed], former adult-film star,[1] charged with the first-degree shooting death of 43-year-old Denver businessman John Paul "J P" Kelso. While unknown to the mainstream media, "Marcus Allen" was considered a "fairly big star" in the gay porn world. Boham had recently attempted to move into straight porn before his alleged crime.

[edit] Biography

He was born in 1981 as he is described as 25 in an article at TheDenverChannel.com[2] Boham, as "Marcus Allen," was a porn star from at least 2002 until 2005. It has been noted that Tim suffered from a bipolar disorder and was prone to fits of rage and anger. Boham worked as a model the past three years for Denver's Maximum Talent Agency, said Rob Lail, agency co-owner.

In November 2002, Boham appeared on the cover of Freshmen magazine (considered to be the best '18-25' magazine of young gay, but not twinkish, men) and became an immediate sensation. In the annual survey in 2003, Marcus Allen was voted "Freshman of the Year" by a wide margin, and again appeared on the cover (June 2003). This led to opportunities such as with Falcon studios.

With Falcon Entertainment, Boham appeared in a dozen adult movies under the name "Marcus Allen" in 2004 and 2005.[3] As Marcus Allen, Boham was on the cover of Mandate magazine[4] in July 2006, apparently for All World's Video. Boham also appeared on the cover of Playgirl Magazine's "campus hunks" issue (November 2006) (and ironically is advertised as "John" of Denver, Colorado, as having a "smooth body and SOFTER side", p. 32-34), perhaps an attempt to move into 'straight' porn. He also worked as an exotic dancer and for the escort company "Boys Next Door".[citation needed]

According to his legal advocate, Donna Thomas, who also knew the victim, Kelso, Thomas says "What has been reported in the media is a mixure of distortions and outright lies. Tim was completely out of the Adult Film industry by July of 2004. There have been more lies then truths in this matter. Tim was raised in a very small town, Stuart, Nebraska. A town of a thousand people. The menacing porno star from the big city, as Tim has been portrayed in the media is a far cry from what the reality of what the real Tim is really like. He has strong ties to his family. He left the adult film industry on his own accord. After some introspection he felt the environment of the Adult film industry was toxic and unhealthy. He returned to Denver to be near his family and rebuild his life. Tim is a very polite, real, young man. His midwestern roots are very apparent when one engages in a conversation with him. This is a greek tragedy in many ways. There are no winners here, only losers. However, the truth will come out. It will easily be proven that the unfortunate outcome in this matter was accidental, not premeditated."

[edit] Downward spiral

Boham had the right look but not the right attitude for modeling work, Lail said. "He didn't like people telling him what to do. He seemed like an angry person. His opportunities were tapering off."

Boham has an explosive temper and owned a large collection of guns, including a rifle with a silencer and a scope, Holland said. Boham, who has a 5-year-old daughter, also picked fights over petty disputes with friends, she said. "He got into bloody fistfights," Holland said. "He just had anger issues." Boham told Lara Holland, who lived in a Denver mansion on High Street in an apartment a floor below Boham, that he "sanitized" his apartment by thoroughly scrubbing it because a gay man had lived there previously, she said. "He hated (gays)," she said. "He hated their lifestyle."

The Advocate reported that Boham left porn about a year ago and went to live in Denver, eventually working for John Paul "J P" Kelso but only for about 10 days before failing to show up for his job. Kelso was co-owner of a Denver debt recovery business called Professional Recovery Systems; he was a philanthropist "... giving away hundreds of thousands of dollars to charities around the world...."[5] and was openly gay. Co-workers at the debt recovery business said that Tim described him as "... bright and ... [that] it seemed like he had his mind on something else."

[edit] Murder of Kelso

A housekeeper found Kelso, 43, shot to death in the bathtub of his upscale Congress Park home on November 13.[6] The police named Boham as a suspect in the slaying. Kelso, reportedly often hired the services of males dancers/escorts.[citation needed] Boham was arrested on November 16 at the U.S.-Mexico border in Lukeville, Arizona, after identifying himself as the subject of a murder warrant to Customs and Border officers.[7] He was extradited to Colorado and is being held without bond. Boham had previously been arrested for alleged assault and making threats, but the charges were dismissed.

According to the Denver Post, Boham told his family that he killed Kelso because he believed that Kelso kept $100,000 to $400,000 in his household safe.[citation needed] The Post reported that court documents said Boham planned to use the money to go to South America with his girlfriend, he told his mother and sister shortly after the shooting, the records allege. But Boham said his plan went awry when Kelso refused to open the safe, and there was a brief struggle during which he accidentally shot Kelso, according to the Post. Boham told his family that when he cut the safe open, it was empty and "so he had done this for nothing," according to a police affidavit.

Kelso had a gunshot wound to the head, police told the Post.

[edit] Background on Kelso

Media reports are that Kelso also had an extensive criminal record.[citation needed] Whether this will have any bearing on Boham's defense remains to be seen.

According to Boham's legal advocate, Donna Thomas, who also knew the victim, Kelso. "J.P. was far from an angel. He had far more foes then friends. Tim will have his day in court, the truth will come out."
