(Timothy) "Timmy" McCarthy (born 7 September 1977) is an Irish sportsman. He plays in the half-forward line on the Cork senior hurling team.

Timmy McCarthy was born in Castlelyons, County Cork in 1977. He was educated locally and at the nearby St. Colman's College in Fermoy. He currently works on the family farm in Castlelyons. During McCarthy's tenure at college he came to be known for his hurling skills, winning 2 Ryan Cup medals and later captaining the college senior team to win the Harty Cup - the most prestigious trophy in college hurling. By then he had also made his inter-county debut for Cork, having won an All-lreland minor medal in 1995. His team-mates on that occasion included future stars like Donal Óg Cusack, Seán Óg Ó hAilpín, and Joe Deane. Two years later McCarthy won an All-Ireland Under 21 medal, later repeating that feat in 1998 while also claimin a National Hurling League medal.

McCarthy also had much success on the local scene as well. He was a member of the Castlelyons team that won the Junior County Championship of 1997. That brought promotion to the Intermediate grade, and 1998 saw them crowned county champions once again, bringing with it senior status for the club for the first time in its history. Similarly, he was a member of the divisional team from East Cork, known as Imokilly, which won the Cork senior championship two years in a row. In 1999 McCarthy was a member of the senior hurling panel, winning Munster Championship and All-Ireland winners medals. McCarthy won further Munster medals in 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2006, as well as All-Ireland winners medals in 2004 and 2005. He also played for the Cork senior football team for a short period, but decided to concentrate on hurling.
