TimeSplitter (race)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The TimeSplitters are a fictional race of genetically modified mutants from the TimeSplitters series. Their main intention seems to be to destroy the human race (to which their creator Jacob Crow considered them genetically superior).

[edit] Origin
For the majority of the series they were described as aliens. However, their history and background was elaborated on in Future Perfect. The game revealed that they were created by the mad scientist Jacob Crow as a byproduct of his research on immortality (he eventually succeeded by turning himself into "Splitter Crow"). He then set about having them destroy the "inferior" human race (leading to a war known as the "TimeSplitter Wars"). They no longer exist in the continuity of the series as Sergeant Cortez wiped them out by traveling back in time and killing Crow before he could create the species.
[edit] Appearances
[edit] TimeSplitters
The TimeSplitters spawn towards the end of each story mode mission (after the collectible for that level has been obtained) to attack the player. This iteration is able to hurl burst of green energy at the player, has red and white skin and looks almost like a decaying corpse.
[edit] TimeSplitters 2
The TimeSplitters appear again in TimeSplitters 2, but they have a very different role from the original game. While they still spawn after you have collected a certain item for each level (though now the only item collected for each level is the Time Crystal), they can also be found as normal enemies in certain levels. Unlike before, they now come in different species.
[edit] TimeSplitters: Future Perfect
The TimeSplitters no longer spawn randomly towards the end of each level (due to the more plot based single player), but they appear as enemies in several of the levels. The cast of these creatures now include Berserker Splitters (similar to the Reaper Splitters of the previous games but they are orange in colour and move in a more apelike manner), mutants, and the final boss, Splitter Crow (non-playable character).
[edit] Species
[edit] TimeSplitter (TS1)
This species only appears in the original TimeSplitters, only showing up after the level's item was recovered, in order to stop the player's escape from the level. They resemble humanoid corpses with their bones showing. In combat, they hurl green blobs of energy at the character which does a considerable amount of damage. Unlike Splitters from TS2 and TSFP, these Splitters lack a cloaking device and remain visible at all times.
[edit] Reaper Splitter (TS2)
A "grunt" TimeSplitter that first appeared in TimeSplitters 2. It has grey skin, a deformed face, and a thin, bony body, much like its predecessors from the original game. Rather than using weapons, they fire bolts of energy from their claws and can cloak, making them harder to track down and shoot (though they act like all other characters would in multiplayer mode). Their name may refer to their scythe-like claws.
[edit] Drone Splitter (TS2)
These are described in the game as once being "a peaceful amphibious race" which were enslaved by the TimeSplitters and are controlled by cybernetic implants. The Splitters use them as meat shields and for suicidal attacks. Their bodies are covered by white, rubbery skin, and their head is pink and has a large, tooth-filled mouth. They are not issued weapons and lack the bio-electric capabilities of the Reaper Splitter, so their preferred method of attack is to swipe at the player with their claws.
[edit] Baby Drone (TS2)
A shorter, juvenile version of the Drone Splitter. The infant Drones were enslaved as well and are almost as deadly as their parents, thanks to their small size. They look like smaller Drones with black skin instead of white. Their method of attacking is the same, but because they are weaker than a fully-grown Drone, they can be killed with significantly less effort.
[edit] Scourge Splitter (TS2)
The Scourge Splitters were described as the high ranking caste of the TimeSplitter race. Their humanoid bodies have bone-white skin, and they are known (and admired) for the stylish pants that they wear. Their upper torso divides somewhere around their waistline, creating a large gap in their chests, from which purple bio-flames spew. They have no necks, but their purple, featureless heads hover in the bio-flames. It is also notable to add that the bio-flames extinguish when the Scourge is killed. As the "elite" caste, Scourges are issued plasma-based firearms and attack in a very similar manner to a human opponent. They also spawn at the end of some levels alongside the Reapers, wielding weapons from whatever time period they were in.
[edit] Hybrid Mutant (TS2 and TSFP)
These mutants were introduced in TimeSplitters 2, but were not revealed as human/TimeSplitter hybrids (they were just described as mutants) until Future Perfect. The TimeSplitters 2 version was a human with half their body disproportionate to the rest (the game's engine treated them as undead characters), while the Future Perfect version (called "The Freak" in the multiplayer character selection screen) featured a similar mutant half which more resembled a TimeSplitter. Furthermore, the newer mutants had the ability to give off a radial blast of energy (similar to the linear blast of the Reapers) & can cloak themselves for a short period of time (Like the Reaper and Beserker splitters). These can rapidly and effectively be killed by a serum delivered intravenously via an Injector (this caused them to explode in a shower of gore, which was also harmful to anyone caught nearby). ("The Freak" is a person mutated in one of Jacob Crow's many failed attempts to make artificial immortality)
[edit] Beserker Splitter (TSFP)
These replaced the Reaper Splitters in Future Perfect. They share the same cloaking abilities and energy beams, however they are orange in colour and move in an ape like manner. According to their character screen they are the shock troopers of the Timesplitters' forces. They have the ability to bite your teammates
[edit] Splitter Crow (TSFP)
The main antagonist of Future Perfect, Jacob Crow, finally achieved immortality by transforming into this monstrous beast. Crow's human body (his arms, head and upper torso) are attached to the rest of it, which resembles a huge quadripedal, muscular blob with many machine guns and other weapons. His hands have been replaced by two metal caps, but his arms now seem to have movement which corresponds to two larger arms attached to the main body either side of Crow's "human" body. He is both the penultimate and final boss.
