Tim Crowther

Tim Crowther was elected to Kirklees council as a Labour councillor following the UK local elections on 2 May 2002, with 2,027 votes. He resigned and called a by-election in August 2003, standing as an Independent. This split the Labour vote and made headlines when the British National Party candidate David Exley was elected to the council with 1607 votes, giving a 114 majority. The Liberal Democrats' candidate Tabasum Aslam got 1493 votes and Tim Crowther received 1147, giving second and third place respectively.

Tim Crowther is now a teacher of A-Level Politics at Heckmondwike Grammar School, where he is well respected by pupils and staff alike due to his sense of humour, intellect, rugged good looks and penchant for a wide variety of toasties. Tim Crowther has entered four students into the Oxford Union Schools' Debating Competition and as with all aspects of his life, entered into this with every scrap of enthusiasm available. Not only does Tim Crowther contribute to the lives of individual students and the school as a whole, he is also actively involved in the local community. He is a true local hero, in a world where many would doubt the very existence of such a man.
