Timothy M. Carter (born September 21, 1979 in St. Petersburg, Florida) is a National Football League wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns. The Giants drafted Carter with the 14th pick in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He was traded on March 9, 2007 to the Browns for running back Reuben Droughns.

Tim Carter played college football at Auburn University. Before attending Auburn, Carter attended Lakewood High School (Saint Petersburg, Florida) and was a letterman in football and track.

Carter is one of the fastest men in the NFL, running the 40 yard dash in 4.31 seconds during the Draft combine.

[edit] 2006 Season

Tim Carter made his first reception, for 22 yards, of the season in the huge comeback against the Eagles in week two. During the game he also scored his first touchdown of the season, on a fumble return after Plaxico Burress fumbled and the ball rolled into the endzone. Carter was again in the endzone the following week, with 3 receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown versus the Seahawks. He hwas decent against Washington, with 4 receptions for 44 yards. Carter ended the season with 22 receptions for 253 and 3 touchdowns, despite garnering only 8 starts.

At times, Carter has demonstrated a lack of concentration in dropping passes. This was often overshadowed by his ability to draw several deep pass interference calls late in 2006, resulting in significant gains by penalty yardage. He has been labeled as 'injury prone' due to a spate of physical ailments (hamstring, ruptured Achilles' tendon), which translates into production below expectations. He was rarely able to show his impressive deep speed with the Giants, and certainly will be expected to bring this type of threat to the table with offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski's system in Cleveland. Although Carter had every chance to excel once Amani Toomer got injured. He was handed a starting position and never stepped up and seized the opportunity.

[edit] Family

Carter is the cousin of major league baseball players Gary Sheffield and Dwight Gooden, as well as fellow NFL players Darrin Nelson, Al Harris, Timothy Newsome, Ozzie Newsome and Carlos Carson. Tim's younger brother Patrick Carter was formerly a quarterback and wide receiver with Georgia Tech, and currently plays wide receiver for the University of Louisville (current Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino was formerly the Auburn offensive coordinator).
