Tiltrotator
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Tiltrotator is an hydraulic attachment/tool used on most excavators in the Nordic countries (Sweden, Finland and Norway). With a tiltrotator mounted on the excavator, the bucket can be rotated (360 degrees) and tilted in order to incerase the flexibility and precision of the excavator. A tiltrotator can best be described as a wrist between the arm of the excavator and the bucket/tool. Many tiltrotators also use extra hydraulic functions to power other worktools which can be attached to the quickcoupler on the tiltrotator.
The tiltrotator was invented in Sweden in the early 80-ties and has grown immensly popular in the Nordic countries. The concept has during 2005-2006 also started to grow rapidly outside of the Nordic countries starting with Holland, Germany and the United Kingdom.
Three companies manufacture tiltrotators today; Engcon, Indexator (who uses the the brandname Rototilt) and Steelwrist.
