Tilottama

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tilottama (Sanskrit: तिलोत्तमा) in Hindu mythology is an Apsara. The name in Sanskrit is a compound word [Til (Sesame) + Uttama (better than)] and means "better than everyone else by at least as much as a sesame seed". She is reputed to have been created by Vishwakarma, at Brahma's request, by taking the best quality of everything as the ingredients. She was responsible for bringing about the mutual destruction of the Asuras Sunda and Upsunda.
