Randy Cohen, Ticket City[1] CEO, got his start in the ticket business in 1988 when he was a student at the University of Texas at Austin. Selling tickets to local events, he built a reputation as the best source for tickets in-town. The more his client base grew, the more he wanted to provide a simple, hassle-free way for people to acquire tickets for their favorite events. In March 1990 he founded Ticket City.
The original staff had four employees and one computer all crammed into a tiny office. Today, Ticket City employs more than thirty people and occupies a 10,000 square foot office building in Austin, Texas. From those small beginnings a multimillion-dollar company has formed; one, which still remains, committed to the original ideals. And Ticket City employees continue to pride themselves on providing the highest level of customer satisfaction in the ticket industry. They take time to ensure that each customer's needs are their top priority.
Ticket City's first web site launched in 1996. That static site lasted a couple of years. But in the Summer of 1998 work began on remodeling that static web page in order to create something more dynamic. On August 8th, 1998 Ticket City released the first fully functioning e-commerce web site in the ticket industry. The site contained information and ticket prices for a wide variety of events and allowed consumers to purchase these tickets online. In the many years that Ticket City has been online, the web site has undergone several major facelifts to make it more user friendly. Including a major addition in 2001, that integrated Ticket City's Real Time Ticketing software, which enables users to buy live inventory in real-time. Because of those innovations, today Ticket City is one of the largest ticket web sites on the internet. And to date, Ticket City has served over 100,000 customers in 68+ different countries around the World.
In 2007, Ticket City launched a new website and unveiled a new narrowed business model. Instead of being all things to all potential buyers, they hope to exceed their competition in the realms of College Sports and Major Championship Events, including the Kentucky Derby, the Super Bowl, The Masters and both the Tennis and Golf U.S. Opens.
Also in 2007, Ticket City was a major sponsor of Playboy's Super Bowl party and they inked a deal to help co-promote Playboy's golf tournaments throughout the year.
