A Thumper Truck, or seismic vibrator truck, is a large truck that repeatedly impacts or "Thumps" the ground. It is used to find underground oil deposits. The Thumper Truck sometimes follows behind a vehicle with sensors designed to pick up any unusual vibrations as the signal bounces back up. These sensors, or geophones, can also be preset along the truck's proposed route.

This seismic refraction method of exploration can be less damaging to the landscape than earlier technology, as well as being more effective and cost efficient. However, some wilderness conservancy groups oppose the use of the vehicles, citing long-lasting disturbances of the soil bed.
