Thrull

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page is about the Transformers planet. For the fictional race of Thrulls, see Thrull.

Thrull is a fictional planet in the original Transformers cartoon series. It orbits the fictional red giant star, Hydran although it could refer to the constellation Hydra.

After being thrown out of Unicron's armor by Rodimus Prime in Transformers: The Movie, the Decepticon leader Galvatron drifted through space and crashed on this unstable, volcanically active world. The time he spent bathing in the planet's plasma lava resulted in an "imbrittlement of the metaprocessing circuitry" in his robotic brain, rendering him insane.

Galvatron was located on Thrull by Cyclonus and Scourge in the post-Movie mini-series, Five Faces of Darkness. After leaving the planet, Galvatron destroyed it with a blast from his cannon mode.

[edit] Origin of the planet name

The name of the planet Thrull has several possible origins and meanings. Thrull could be a combination of the words thrown and pulled as Galvatron was thrown into and then pulled out of the plasma pit. But more likely is the word is from thrall which means:

  1. a servant in mental or moral servitude' or servant slave
  2. a state of servitude or submission or a state of complete absorption

Also an implication from the star's name Hydran comes from Greek mythology, The Lernaean Hydra was an ancient nameless serpent-like chthonic water beast that possessed numerous heads.
