Through the Keyhole

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Through the Keyhole is a light-hearted panel game, hosted by Sir David Frost where panelists are given a video tour of a mystery guests property and attempt to identify them. The guests are people who are in the public eye. It is produced by David Frost's own production company - David Paradine Productions - has been on air since 1983, first on ITV then on the BBC.

It is notable for it's fixed, and some would say, staid format. At the start of each episode, David Frost, the studio presenter, introduces the panel of three celebrities, with the catchphrase "And what a panel they are...." and some gently humorous or mocking descriptions. He then hands over to the location presenter who gives the panelists a guided tour of the property, noting particular items and giving both clues and attempting to mislead them, afterwhich David reveals the identity of the guest to the audience, and then the panel are given turns at guessing their identity. The audience participate with varying degrees of clapping according to the accuracy of the panel's guesswork.

The panellists either identify, or David has to reveal, who the guest is, and they are interviewed either in the studio or on location by David or the location presenter and given a plain representation of a key as a memento. After the interview, the same pattern is followed with subsequent properties and guests.

Due to the fixed length of the programme, when panelists have quickly discovered the owner, it is necessary for the panel to delay revealing the identity and/or for David to pad out the proceedings.

Series 7 started transmission on 27 February 2006.
