Throne of Darkness is a Japanese-themed action-oriented roleplaying game released by Vivendi Universal (VU) Games. Players may select from one of seven different samurai characters and may control up to four individual characters at any one time.
The game also has three separate multiplayer modes, which can support up to 35 players.

[edit] The Seven Samurai
Each samurai character shares similarities and differences from each other such as weapon usage, spells, and unique abilities in any circumstances.
1. Swordsman: Great skills in sword combat. He can wield 1-2 swords. He can also use bows and arrows.
2. Archer: Mastery in range combat such as bows and arrows and throwing weapons ( such as shuriken and kunai). He can also use a single sword.
3. Brick: Huge and strong one, possesses powerful close-combat skills. His expertise is in polearms such as naginatas (Japanese spear) and tetsu-bo (iron cudgel). He can also wield 1-2 swords.
4. Wizard: A mystical samurai character who possesses powerful elemental spells. His own spells can be described as unique, especially his dragon and kanji spells, which mostly cannot be found in other samurai characters. He can use a single sword and any range weapons.
5. Berserker: A raging samurai character. At the start, he possesses a fear spell which he can bring fear against his enemies in order to drive them away. Also, he is an expert in double sword combat. He can also use polearms. He is known as the hybrid character of the Swordsman and the Brick due to his balanced skills and strength.
6. Ninja: A stealthy samurai character, well-known for his ninjutsu skills. An expert in throwing weapons. He can also use bows and arrows and a single sword.
7. Leader: The leader of the seven samurai. Possessing strong charisma at the very start, he can purchase any items with a discount in order to save some more gold for future usage. Well-known also as "The Jack of All Trades" due to he possesses some similar skills from his fellow samurai characters: a.) the single sword expertise of the 6 other samurai. b.) the polearm skills of the Brick and Berserker. c.) the bow and arrow capability of the Archer and Ninja. d.) the spell usage of the Wizard.
[edit] The Storyline
The game is set in dark medieval place in Japan, Yamato, it is ruled by a ruthless emperor, Zanshin, who turned himself into a powerful dark warlord, holding an incalculable army of darkness and determined to conquer the whole Yamato, even by means of slaughtering the innocents. As one of the 4 clans (Mori, Oda, Tokugawa, and Toyotomi) controlling the seven samurai, you must stop the dark warlord at all cost.

Characters
During gameplay the player is allowed to choose from seven different "samurai". The choices included are the Swordsman, the Brick, the Berserker, the Wizard, the Archer, the Ninja, and the Leader. Some people have noted similarities between a previously released game known as Diablo II, but in the wake of Diablo II's popularity, this has not been uncommon.
Items
There four types of weapons may be use throughout the game: swords, polearms, bows, and throwing weapons. There are also five armor parts which provide extra defense and accuracy throughout the game: chest armor, gloves, masks, helmets, and leg armor. There are four types of items which provide extra damage resistance and charisma: Talisman for charisma, Beads for elemental resistance and ki bonus, Medical Case for vitality bonus, and Amulet for strength and dexterity bonus.
