[edit] Synopsis
In negotiating to transport cargo for currency, Rygel—having passed himself off as the dominar he used to be in order to increase his importance—is kidnapped by the Tavleks, a military race aided by powered gauntlets that pump addictive stimulants into their wearers. They hope to ransom Rygel back to his 'subjects'. The crew is forced to rescue him after they discover Moya can't leave orbit—Rygel has used one of Moya's processors powering her propulsion systems as a crystal in his staff because it "looked pretty". But first, they need to deal with D'Argo, who has donned the gauntlet and become a megalomaniacal, rageful danger. As Zhaan attempts to aid a captured Tavlek soldier going through gauntlet withdrawal on Moya, Aeryn and Crichton find they must use the gauntlet to aid them in their recovery of Rygel from the Tavleks on the planet below.
While imprisoned, Rygel faces his own insignificance as he has to confess that he has no throne and no one will ransom him. Aeryn must then confront her own violent side as the gauntlet turns her power-mad and ultraviolent. D'Argo joins them, and she and he commiserate on how incompetent and stupid Crichton is, as he accidentally blows up their only weapon. However, it is Crichton who is ultimately able to convince the Tavlek Bekhesh to free Rygel.
Zhaan exults that she has been able to free the young Tavlek from the effects of the gauntlet, and they release him, whereupon he immediately takes up the gauntlet again.
