  • Thought Process Map -- Commonly referred to as either a "TMAP" or "TPM", it is commonly recognized as one of the first tools that should be employed for a process improvement project or projects that fall under the methodology of Six Sigma, or Lean Manufacturing. Essentially, a TMAP presents thoughts, ideas and questions at the beginning of the project in a very structured, visual way which is relative to accomplishing a project goal. It aids a team or person in identifying all information, as well as progress through a project or a DMAIC process. It has various formats and will change throughout the life of the project as information & data is either added, deleted, or elaborated upon. It can also be used as a good tool for a project manager to identify actions and goals.
