Thon the Egyptian

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thon the Egyptian is the husband of Polydamna, a figure of Greek mythology.

His name is regarded by some etymologists to be the origin of the word for the type of footwear referred to as thongs. This is because in the Achillea by Hoganos of Appolonios, Thon is referred to often as characteristically wearing typical Egyptian sandals, similar in design to the modern thongs.
