Thomson Learning1 is one of the four operating divisions of The Thomson Corporation (TSX:TOC; NYSE:TOC), providing integrated information solutions to higher education, corporate, government and professional customers. 2005 revenues were US $2.18 billion (7% over prior year), and the company employs 9,480 employees worldwide. Thomson Learning is based in Stamford, Connecticut.

Thomson Learning has operations in 39 countries. In the academic marketplace, it serves elementary, secondary, post-secondary and graduate-level students, teachers, and learning institutions in both traditional and distance learning environments. In the professional and corporate training marketplaces, they offer adult education and certification materials for corporations, training centers and individuals. For all of their customers, Thomson Learning helps find a total learning solution by offering textbooks, courseware, test preparation, testing, assessment, and professional certification. Their products and services are sold through direct channels and via a worldwide network of distributors, including:
- Thomson Course Technology -- publisher of text and trade books in the areas of:
- Computer information systems, including computer concepts and application software
- Computer science and computer programming
- Management Information Systems

- Thomson Delmar Learning -- publisher of books for career and vocational/trades training, including areas such as:

It was announced2 on October 25, 2006 that Thomson Learning would be offered for sale by the Thomson corporation, with an estimated value of up to 5 billion dollars. As part of the overall restructuring, sales of two divisions of Thomson Learning have already been announced:
- Thomson Prometric, which is still currently up for sale as a separate entity, and
- Thomson NETg, a computer-based training publisher, which has been sold to SkillSoft3 for $285 million.
