Tommy Nelson is the mayor of the City of New Roads, Located in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. He was elected 53%-47% on September 29, 2006, after several years on the city council. and he will term will officially begin on January 1, 2007, when his predecessor, Sylvester Muckelroy, officially steps down. Mr. Nelson will be the second African-American to hold that office.
