Thomas W. Libous

Thomas W. Libous is the New York State Senator representing the 52nd district which includes Broome County, Tioga County and parts of Chenago County. He is a member of the Republican Party. He is currently Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee and the Select Committee on the Disabled. He has served as Chair of the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Committee and the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee.

His legislative accomplishments include consolidating two state agencies into the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, creating the state's Office of Traumatic Brain Injury, authoring the state's wheelchair lemon law and Timothy's Law which provides health insurance coverage for persons with mental illness. His current legislative priorities include State debt reform and creating cancer maps that are available to the public so that they can see possible threats to their health. Senator Libous is co-founder of YES! Safe Choices for Kids, an anti-drug abuse organization, and BOOKS, which encourages kids to read.

He is also host to the Annual Steak Roast which attracts nearly 4,000 people from across the State and is the largest political fundraiser in Upstate New York.
