Thomas M. Siebel is the chairman of First Virtual Group, a diversified holding company with interests in commercial real estate, agribusiness, global investment management, and philanthropy.

From 1984 through 1990, Siebel started as a salesman at Oracle Corporation. In his first year there, he was named a top salesman within the organization. This led to a number of senior management positions.

From 1990 to 1992, Siebel served as CEO of Gain Technology, a multimedia software company, where his primary task was to prepare the company to either either be sold or result in an initial public offering. Other key executives in this organization were Pehong Chen, Michael A. Harrison, and John P. Dawson. The company was sold to Sybase in December 1992 for $100 million.

Siebel was the founder, chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Siebel Systems, which was later sold to Oracle for $5.8 billion.

Siebel serves on the Board of Advisors of the University of Illinois College of Engineering, the University of Illinois Foundation, and the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He is the chairman of the Montana Meth Project and the Siebel Scholars Foundation.

Siebel is the Chairman of the Thomas and Stacey Siebel Foundation, which is active in support of education, wildlife habitat preservation, environmental conservation, and alleviating homelessness.

Siebel received the David Packard Award from the Business Executives for National Security in 2002 and was named one of the Top 25 Managers in Global Business by BusinessWeek in 2000 and 2001. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Engineering (Hon.) from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2006.

The Thomas and Stacey Siebel Foundation is active in the support of education, wildlife habitat preservation, and support for the homeless. In 2001, Mr. Siebel donated $32 million to his alma mater, the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, to build the Siebel Center for Computer Science, opened in spring 2004.[1]

With methamphetamine abuse and addiction reaching epidemic levels in Montana, he founded the Montana Meth Project, aimed at significantly reducing the prevalence and frequency of methamphetamine use in the state.[2][3][4][5]

Siebel is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he received a B.A. in history, an MBA, a M.S. in computer science, and a Ph.D. (Hon.) in Engineering.

A part-time Montana resident, Siebel owns and operates the Dearborn Ranch in Wolf Creek, MT, and the N Bar Ranch in Grass Range, MT, both working cattle ranches.

Tom Siebel has enjoyed a long history in Montana, spanning 35 years. His early experiences paved the way for his continued commitment and dedication to the area, and his concern for its future.
