Thomas Jefferson High School (TJ), located in Jefferson Hills is a part of the West Jefferson Hills School District which includes West Elizabeth, Jefferson Hills and Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania. These communities have a combined population of 20,000. It is a suburban high school located 9 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
The school newspaper is called the Statesman and the yearbook is titled the Monticello. A literary magazine, named the Spectrum, is produced by the students with a faculty advisor.
The school also offers collaborative programs with area technical facilities such as the Steel Center and the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics.
[edit] Extracurricular Activities
TJ has won a WPIAL Class AAA Championships in 1980 at Three Rivers Stadium and in 2004 and 2006 at Heinz Field. Also in 2004, the TJ football team won the PIAA State Championship in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The boys soccer & hockey teams have also won numerous PIAA state championships.
TJ has a large band which in 1998 and was featured as the WPXI Band of the week, and WPXI Band of the Year in 2006.
