Thomas J. Semmes (1824-1899) Born in Washington, D.C., December 16, 1824. Member of Louisiana state legislature; delegate to Louisiana secession convention, 1861; Senator from Louisiana in the Confederate Congress, 1862-65; Louisiana Attorney General, 1860-64; delegate to Louisiana state constitutional convention, 1879. Member, American Bar Association. Died in New Orleans, June 23, 1899. Interment at Metairie Cemetery.
