Thomas Barber, was a "free-state" settler who was shot and died in Lawrence,Kansas during the so-called Wakarusa War. Thomas Barber was memorialized in John Greenleaf Whittier’s poem, “Burial of Barber,” which became an anti-slavery rally to arms[1].
