Thodikana

Thodikana(ತೊಡಿಕಾನ) is an Indian village nestled in the foothills of the Western Ghats in southern Karnataka. It is a beautiful little village in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, about 100 km from Mangalore city.
Thodikana is known most for its Mallikarjuna temple, which was probably built sometime in the 13th century. The temple gets many hundreds of visitors each week.A few meters south east of the temple there is a fish tank known as 'meenugundi'. Visitors traditionally feed the fish there raw rice. Killing the fish is forbidden.
Temple daily offers free mid day meals to the pilgrimage as a prasadam.A water falls called Devaragundi is situated about 1.5 Kilometer from the temple.
Thodikana village is largely agricultural, with many arecanut (betelnut), Coconut,Rubber,Vanilla,Pepperplantations. Most of the arecanut plantations are owned by [*Havyaka]Brahmins living in the village.

- The Private Buses available for every half an hour to the taluk center, Sullia.
- The Private jeeps can be hired from Sullia, Aranthodu or any other nearby places.
- Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) owned by Govt of Karnataka.
- Roads connecting two major cities of Karnataka; Mysore and Mangalore runs nearby of Thodikana (Aranthodu about 6 Kilometer).
- The nearest place to get the accommodation is Sullia(Sulya).

- Kolikkamale mountain is a famous trekking place situated near Thodikana.
- Omkareshwara Temple of [Bagamandala], situated around 18 KiloMeters from Thodiakana which also is a famous pilgrimage location.
- Devaragundi , a water falls, is situated around 1.5 km from Thodikana village.
- Talakaveri is situated around 22 km from Thodikana.
- A few meters south east of the Thodikana temple there is a fish tank belongs to temple which is very famous in Mangalore district.

The majority of residents of Thodikana are Hindus. The main languages of Thodikana are Kannada, Havyaka Kannada, Tulu, Are Kannada (Arebhashe), Tamil and Malayalam.
