Thirumangalam is a city and a municipality in Madurai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It has a small manufacturing and cottage industries.

Thirumangalam is located at 9.48° N 77.58° E^[1]. It has an average elevation of 12 metres (39 feet). The town is situated on the banks of river Gundar, a distributary of river Vaigai.

As of 2001 India census^GRIndia, Thirumangalam had a population of 43,371. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Thirumangalam has an average literacy rate of 80%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 85%, and female literacy is 75%. In Thirumangalam, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
