Thirumalai is a Tamil film which released on May 29, 2003 and was directed by Ramana. This film has Vijay in the main lead. Jyothika plays his love and Kiran Rathod plays a guest role. But this film was a success and ran for 105 days. Vijay's string of fast paced entertainers started with this one and was followed by Ghilli, Madhurey, Thirupaachi, Sivakasi and Aathi. It was remade in Telugu as Gowri.

Thirumalai(Vijay), a mechanic, falls in love with Sweta(Jyothika) and after some persistent wooing, she reciprocates his feelings. Sweta's father(Ashwin), the owner of a television channel, seeks the help of Arasu(Manoj.K.Jayan), a dada, to break up the romance.

  • This was the savior in Vijay's career as it was a blockbuster after two flops Vaseegara and Pudhiya Geethai.
  • The film grossed Rs. 40 million in its opening week and eventually grossed Rs. 250 million and ran for 105 days.
