Third party is a term used in several contexts, including:

  • Third parties in United States politics are political parties other than the two major parties (not limited to a single third party).
  • Third-party manufacturers: See aftermarket.
  • A vehicle insurance policy term used when an accident takes place. The first party is the insured driver, the second is the insurance company. Usually, third party insurance is the minimum required by law, and will protect third parties against the financial consequences of loss, damage or injury caused by the insured driver.
  • A Third-party developer
  • Third party (civil litigation), a party brought into a civil legal proceeding by a defendant or by another third party.
  • Third party is quite often used in the English language in connection with any relationship between two parties or entities, to refer to any other person or entity with some involvement.
