Brooke tries to celebrate her 18th birthday, but ends up having a miserable time after the loss of Peyton and Lucas. Peyton attempts to help Lucas win back Brooke, but Brooke once again shows up at the inopportune moment and is led to assume that Lucas and Peyton are now an item. Meanwhile, after coming to grips with the fact that he killed his own brother for what he now realizes is no reason, Dan begins to go insane from the guilt, hearing and seeing the word Murderer everywhere. Nathan confronts Lucas about what happened in the river, and makes the startling confession that he saw the spirit of Keith help him out of the car. Deb relapses into her drug-abusing ways after Dan's death threat, shooting out the window of Karen's Cafe by accident when she was carrying a gun in her bag. Either Brooke or Haley is pregnant.
